North Penn Art Offers Giclee Printing

WHAT IS A GICLEE?

Giclee printing is a technology used for fine art or photograph reproduction using a very high-quality inkjet printer and quality light fast (fade resistant) archival inks to make individual copies. The word “Giclee,” pronounced “jzhee-‘klay,” is derived from the French word “le gicleur” meaning “nozzle,” or more specifically “gicler” meaning “to squirt, spurt, or to spray”. It has to do with the fact that papers are being sprayed with pigments by nozzles with an approximate diameter of one millionth of the diameter of a hair. We offer a variety of papers and canvas for giclee printing. High resolution giclee printing is an excellent choice for artists wanting to create single or multi-sized reproductions from digital files.

GICLEE PRINTING PROCESS:

1.

Scanning

We safely capture your original image with our high resolution digital flatbed scanner, accommodating most any size. Our professional scanner sees and records every detail of texture and color.

2.

Giclee Printing

Next, we produce a beautiful giclee, on your choice of archival paper or canvas. You may order as many or as few as you wish. This method allows you to sell multiples of your artwork, again and again, at a reduced price of the original.

3.

Color Correction

Color corrections are digital adjustments in color, saturation & light that are generally (but not always) necessary for producing an “as-close-to-original” color accurate giclee print from an original scan.

Note: The giclee process uses ink printed on paper or canvas that will most likely look slightly different than your oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, etc. original art. Paper choice also produces a different look than your original substrate. Giclees are beautiful reproductions, but not originals.
